Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic

What To Expect When You Visit A Blair Doctor

We take pride in delivering scientific precise care with the goal to remove interference from your body’s natural innate healing capacity. We recognize that symptoms, syndromes, and most diseases are the end result of a body that is not functioning properly. While most forms of conventional treatment focus on treating the effects, Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care is designed to increase the healing potential of the body so it can heal and repair to the best of its ability. We are here as a partner in your healing process, and look forward to helping you achieve your health goals.

The basic premise of upper cervical chiropractic is that your body is a self-healing, self-regulating system as long as the neurological system is FREE of interference. Upper cervical recognizes that true health is an inside out process, therefore to get well or stay well it is a matter of an internal process. This basic premise contradicts the mainstream health care system which is an outside in paradigm. For whatever ails you there is a pill from the OUTSIDE in that can bring back balance. Medications can be life saving, but diseases and symptoms are not the RESULT of drug deficiencies they are the effect of abnormal function. The ENTIRE FOCUS of upper cervical care is to remove interferences to the nervous system so the inborn intelligence in the body can restore balance and health to the best of its ability.

Your First Visit

At your initial consultation the Doctor will take a history of your current health status, go over past traumas that may be associated with your health problems, and answer any questions you may have. Next you will be brought to an examination room where a battery of tests will be performed to determine if you have a spinal misalignment that is causing your body to function improperly. Finally, we will provide you with a detailed explanation of what Blair Upper Cervical Care is and the process that you will go through if you decide to become a patient.

Various objective tests will be used to determine presence or absence of nervous system interference. The objective of Upper Cervical Care is to only make spinal corrections when necessary.

Leg Length Balance Test

The leg balance test is an objective measure of functional leg length. This test observes whether your legs are even, or whether one is relatively shorter than the other. If your leg balance test reveals one leg shorter than the other, it indicates that the spinal muscle tone is imbalanced(Fig.1). Imbalanced muscles are an indicator that the nerve system is irritated and causing one side of your body to be tighter than the other. When an upper cervical misalignment is present the leg balance test is imbalanced. (Fig. 2). Balanced legs indicate there is NO need for an upper cervical correction.

Leg Check

FIG. 1 Leg Imbalance | Short Leg | Indicator of Upper Neck Misalignment

FIG. 2 Legs balanced. Indicates Muscle tone throughout spine is balanced and no upper neck Misalignment is present. N o Correction needed.A Balanced leg check indicates that the upper cervical spine is free of irritation and the leg check shows balanced (fig2).

Upper Cervical Thermography

Infa-red Thermography Test

Infra-red thermography is an objective measure of nerve system control. Your body responds to outside air temperature because it is always trying to maintain a core temperature of 98 degrees. When someone suffers from upper cervical nerve irritation and subluxation the surface skin temperature becomes warmer on one side compared to the other. The infra-red test can measure an imbalance as the pattern of heat distribution is unique to each person’s interference pattern. This test is preformed each test to objectify changes that are occurring in the nervous system and also are an indicator that is used to determine whether and adjustment is needed or not.

Your doctor uses this test in combination with other tests to determine several things.

1. Do you need an adjustment?

2. Are you making progress?

3. How severe is your problem?

Precision X-ray

The Hallmark of the Blair Upper Cervical Technique are the precise X-rays that are taken of the joints in your neck to determine what direction your vertebrae have misaligned, how far it has misaligned, and the angle of your joint which has misaligned. Knowing this precise information allows your doctor to deliver a precise gentle correction to restore the vertebrae to its normal position. The Blair Upper Cervical X-ray series is unique and is the blue print that your doctor needs to correct you properly.

The Blair Adjustment On A Side Posture Table

All Blair Upper Cervical Adjustments are made on a side posture table (named because the patient lies on their side). This table is low to the ground and allows the doctor to have a biomechanical advantage in making these PRECISE corrections. The adjustment is quick and gentle, the correction is done in less than 12 hundredths of a second. The neck is never twisted or manipulated; in fact the correction is so quick and light that many patients wonder if anything is done.

After your correction is done you will be either left on the table or brought to a resting room. The post rest is a necessary time which allows the body to re-position the spinal segment. The post rest helps the body accept the adjustment and is an essential part in the goal of “holding” the correction. The goal of your care is to keep the correction in its normal position so that the central nervous system can return to a normal state of function, thereby creating healing and repair in the body.

Retracing- The healing process

No process happens without time as an essential element. While many patients get sudden relief, long-term stability and correction of your upper cervical misalignment takes time.  We do not want you to mistake RELIEF for STABILIZATION. While symptoms can fade away, sometimes rapid long-term stability and health can take months to achieve.

Retracing is a phenomena in which the body heals through damaged tissue from old injuries, or tissue that has been compromised due to lack of function. The healing process can have many twists and turns, when the body goes through a healing process and retraces back to health the following things can be experienced temporarily:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle tightness and soreness that is transient
  • Having memories or symptoms that happened long ago

Protecting The Correction | Holding Is Healing

There are many things that you can do to help us help you. Since our goal is to have your correction stay in alignment the following things should be adhered to the day of your adjustment:

  • Do not lift anything more than 10 lbs 2.
  • Do not do extensive overhead work.
  • Do not get a neck massage.
  • Do not text with your head down for extended periods.
  • Stay away from lateral bending of your head(ear to shoulder) 6. Do not stay on a computer for more than 30 mins at a time.
  • Do not roll your head in a circle to “test” it out.
  • Do NOT sleep on your stomach.7.
  • Do not do strenuous exercise, sports, or go to the gym.

As you progress through care restrictions will be lifted as your spinal muscles ligaments and soft tissue are stronger and able to accommodate greater levels of stress without causing your to return to your misaligned state. While we do NOT you to become paranoid about losing your correction we do want you to take certain precautions as to help us help you become more healthy.
